yoga studio fundraiser supports at-risk girls
blue lotus yoga & movement arts offers classes by-donation to support Corral Riding Academy
RALEIGH, N.C. (January 25, 2011) –Â blue lotus yoga & movement arts in Downtown Raleigh celebrates its fourth anniversary February 4-6 with a weekend of classes by-donation to benefit Corral Riding Academy. CORRAL is a local non-profit organization that offers support, tutoring and mentoring to at-risk girls in Wake County.
“We celebrate the studio’s anniversary each year with a weekend of classes to support a non-profit organization — in gratitude for the community that supports us,” said Jill Sockman, blue lotus founder and director.
“CORRALâs mission spoke to us — the troubled girls they help, the way in which they have structured their amazing program, and that in working with rescued horses, the girls learn about themselves and help the animals at the same time.”
CORRAL offers at-risk girls one-on-one mentoring, weekly tutoring, Equine Assisted Learning, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and riding lessons, as well as responsibilities in the barn and caring for the animals.
These program elements aim to provide the girls with the tools necessary to overcome the challenges they face. CORRAL engages the students in the activities over the long-term — to create lasting healing and offer a preventive diversion to the risky behaviors the girls would otherwise be tempted with or prone to explore in their homes, schools or neighborhoods.
âOur goal is to raise $5,000,â Sockman added, âwhich would be the funds needed to sponsor one girl at CORRAL for a year.â
The weekend of classes by donation are open to the public and accessible to yoga students at all levels. Register online to attend any of the classes, or drop in (space permitting). Every class donation enters participants’ names into a drawings for gifts from local businesses. email@example.com.
