yoga studio raises over $5,000 for at-risk girls

RALEIGH, N.C. (February 14, 2011) — blue lotus yoga & movement arts in Downtown Raleigh raised more than $5,000 in one weekend of yoga classes by-donation to benefit The Corral Riding Academy. The studio celebrated its 4th anniversary February 4-6 with the fundraising campaign.

“We couldn’t be happier or more grateful for our community’s support of such a great organization,” said Jill Sockman, blue lotus founder and director. “CORRAL is making a huge, positive impact on the lives of these girls. The money we’ve raised will support one girl in the program for a year — and that could change her life forever.”

CORRAL offers at-risk girls one-on-one mentoring, weekly tutoring, Equine Assisted Learning, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and riding lessons, as well as responsibilities in the barn and caring for the animals. These program elements aim to provide the girls with the tools necessary to overcome the challenges they face.

CORRAL engages the students in the activities over the long-term — to create lasting healing and offer a preventive diversion to the risky behaviors the girls would otherwise be tempted with or prone to explore in their homes, schools or neighborhoods.

“We are amazed and thankful for what blue lotus has done to support CORRAL with this event,” said Joy Currey, Founder and President of The Corral Riding Academy. “The fact that our mission touches others deeply means a lot to us, and it is their generous donations of time, funds and energy that allow us to improve the future for the girls in our program.”
